Senso-ji, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple, is the biggest temple in Tokyo. This is making it perhaps the most famous temple in Tokyo. Besides being the biggest temple in Tokyo, it is also the city’s oldest Buddhist temple.

Depending on which side you enter the area, you might either start at ‘Nakamise Dori’ or end there, but you will definitely not miss it. Nakamise Dori is a street that has over a hundred shops selling souvenirs, crafts and food. It is a very crowded place, but definitely worth walking through, especially if it’s your way to the temple.

The temple itself is beautiful to see, the whole area around the temple is relatively big and you will be able to spend quite some time here. There is no entrance fee to get in to the area or the temple.
Something fun to try at the temple is to purify with smoke. There is a ‘Jokoro’, which is an incense burner, which is in front of the main hall. According to some beliefs, if the smoke touches unhealthy parts of your body, it will recover those parts. You will be able to enter Senso-Ji from different sides since multiple streets lead to this place.
